Looe Harbour at The Old Bridge House Hotel, Looe, Cornwall

The Old Bridge House Hotel is magnificently located right in the heart of Looe and has an uninterrupted view over the town and harbour. On a frosty morning the mist rising from the harbour is a magical sight. In the summer months breakfast becomes the best part of the day as the sun streams into our dining room. Weather permitting we throw open the conservatory doors to create a "BREAKFAST ON THE TERRACE" atmosphere.

Our Gardens

When we arrived at The Old Bridge House the garden was overgrown and very much neglected. Today many a person stops on their way past to admire the hard work and tender care that has gone into making our garden a real feature of the property. We're not quite the Eden project yet, but we're giving it a go.

Christmas and New Year in Looe

might be in the middle of low season, however, there's nothing low about this time of year in Looe. The town's award winning Christmas lights and famous New Year's Eve fancy dress street party make it the place to spend these festive celebrations. Booking early is essential both in terms of accommodation and restaurants.

Historic Pictures

With nearly 400 years of history behind it, The Old Bridge House certainly has a story or two to tell. The house started its days as the home of several generations of the Hearle family, who in their time were quite important people. A number of the Hearle men were mayors of West Looe including Nathaniel Hearle who was the last mayor before East & West Looe town councils were combined in the late 1800's. The first picture (although a little hard to see) shows where the old bridge used to be. You also get an idea of the rather "hit & miss" manner in which it was built. Back in those days, The Old Bridge House was known as "Bridge End House". The second picture is taken at the end of the 19th century and shows how little Looe has really changed in the last 200 years. There are a few more houses & the roads are in better repair, but essentially things are much the same today as they were back then. The last picture is a local artist's impression of how the old bridge might have looked.
